Local restaurant in North Carolina forced to close permanently due to Coronavirus

0

A Jacksonville, North Carolina restaurant has closed it’s doors permanently, according to former co-worker.

Chuy’s, known for it’s delicious Tex-Mex food in Onslow County has closed it’s doors due to the Coronavirus.

Amy Moore, who posted the news on Facebook Monday, said that it was “because of everything going on.”

She said Chuy’s changed her life forever, helping her find herself again.

This restaurant helped me find myself again: and gain much needed confidence in myself. I met some amazing people; and made lifelong friendships. My heart hurts for my fellow coworkers left without jobs: and for all of the memories made here. Thank you for it all, she said.

Let’s pray for our local businesses and if you know Amy, give her your love.

Stay strong to all of those at Chuy’s.

Quarantine and chill? Netflix party lets you have movie nights with friends while social distancing

0

Soooo, are you trying to quarantine and chill with some friends?

Well, y’all do know that Netflix has a Google Chrome extension that will let you watch Netflix movies with friends without having to be in the same room as them thanks to Netflix Party.

To use Netflix Party, you and all of your guests will need Chrome browsers and the Netflix Party extension, which you can find here. Otherwise the syncing won’t work. Also, be warned this extension only works with Netflix and not the other streaming options out there.

Once you have the extension installed, go to Netflix and pick something to watch. Click the NP extension icon after you loaded up your video of choice –the icon should turn red when it’s accessible. You’ll have the option to give yourself total control, meaning you’ll be the only one able to start and stop the video. The icon will then display a link (you can click the icon again at any point while watching to get access to it should you need to send it out again).

As the party host, you can then copy the link from the extension icon and send it to the people you want to watch with. Again, they’ll need to be logged into their Netflix accounts to be able to access the chat.

For the people joining the party, copy the link. You’ll land on Netflix, and to access the party, click the NP icon in the top-right of the screen. Your video should now be synced with the hosting user, and you should be able to type in the chat. You can also customize your in-chat name and icon by clicking on the one you already have (a pizza slice, in my case).

Charlotte dental assistant fired from job after diagnosed with presumed COVID-19

A North Carolina dental office may lose business, not due to the Coronavirus, but because they fired a woman who was ordered by doctors to quarantine.

Macy Roden, who worked at KOS Endodontics in Hickory, North Carolina said she was fired by her boss Dr. Alexander Kutuza after being ordered to quarantine pending test results of COVID-19.

Roden said she went to the emergency room with flu symptoms Saturday. The flu test came back negative but her symptoms continued. She said that’s when the hospital tested her for the coronavirus.

My COVID test was sent off and it could take 4 to 6 days because they don’t have the ability to do the rapid test yet. They did quarantine me on Monday, March 16th until the 30th or until my test comes back negative.

Roden said she was a dental assistant and immediately sent over medical documentation and a quartine order to her employer.

She received a late-night text message from Dr. Kutuza, her employer,  firing her.

It basically says we regret to inform you that we no longer need your services and you’re no longer working for us as of today. I sai so you’re terminating me because I am quarantined by the hospital? Because I could be jeopardizing other people’s health?

Roden says she feels like she’s never done anything to jeopardize her job. “It just seems fishy,” she said.

FMLA and ADA laws may protect some COVID-affected employees from termination, but usually only in severe cases, and likely only for confirmed positives.

Some say Roden’s firing is not fair, and that they stand with her in whatever action she decides to take against her employer.

We are in people’s faces, we’re in their mouths touching and I don’t think it’s fair. If it wasn’t for my tax money and me paying my bills ahead of time with my tax money I would be really screwed right now. I just feel like it’s not right.

The Federal FMLA provides employees up to 12 weeks of protected leave in the case of a serious health condition. It’s unclear whether being under quarantine for a presumed or confirmed COVID-19 case qualifies.

What do y’all think about this firing?

Thousands of positive Coronavirus cases projected for NC, according to UNC epidemiologist

A researcher at the University of North Carolina said Monday that North Carolina could have thousands of COVID-19 cases in a matter of weeks.

Kimberly Powers, an associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Gillings School of Public Health, said that her projection is based on the growth rate of cases in the state since the first positive test for Coronavirus was announced on March 3rd.

Monday evening, health officials in North Carolina confirmed 36 COVID-19 cases in the state.

That figure is expected to top by 100 by the end of his week and 1,000 by the end of the month, according to Powers.

These are all preliminary projections and subject to change. This is a rapidly evolving situation, she said.

Black people can get the Coronavirus, black man in Louisiana 1st person to die from the virus

0

Just like a bullet has no ethnicity on it, the Coronavirus doesn’t either.

Anyone can catch this virus, and to believe otherwise is to be foolish. Let’s be smart.

A 58-year-old black man has died from the Coronavirus, despite rumors that Black/African-Americans can’t contract the virus.

Ives Green, 58, and a resident of a facility serving people with developmental disabilities and having limited contact with the outside world have died from COVID-19.

Green’s family said that he stated to them that he had been feeling unwell. While his condition was deteriorating, medical staff at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans received the U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s permission to give him a test for the new coronovirus, which only a few people in Louisiana have been getting.

Officials say Green’s test came back positive, and Green on Saturday became the first person in Louisiana to die from COVID-19.

Ives had a lot more living to do. People need to take this virus seriously and follow CDC guidelines, his family said.

His family said he had no comprehension of COVID-19 and did not know he was gravely ill.

Experts say, people who feel well and don’t experience any symptoms- such as a high fever and a cough- can still spread the disease to others who may not be able to resist the illness as effectively.
