A terrifying crash Saturday afternoon in Goldsboro caused a major pileup involving multiple vehicles and an 18-wheeler – that sent 11 people to the hospital.
Officials say the wreck happened around 12:47 p.m. near U.S. 70 and North Oak Forest Road, where first responders were dispatched after reports of a serious multi-vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer.
When emergency crews arrived, they were met with a chaotic scene filled with damaged vehicles, injured victims, and backed-up traffic stretching through the area.
A video surfacing on social media, posted by Rico McDowell, showed at least two people unconscious inside a vehicle and a chaotic crash scene the moment the 18-wheeler crash into multiple vehicles caught on McDowell’s dash cam.
Authorities confirmed that 11 people either received treatment at the scene or were transported to local hospitals for injuries suffered in the crash. Two victims were reportedly hurt badly enough that they had to be airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for advanced medical care.
As of Saturday evening, officials had not publicly released the identities of the victims or the extent of their injuries.
Investigators are still working to determine what led up to the crash.
