Police said shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to Memorial Drive between Fifth Street and Third Street for a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, police found Jayceon, who had been struck. He was transported to ECU Health Medical Center, where he died.

The driver has not been charged yet, and it’s unclear if they will be charged.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was “fully cooperating with officials.”

Some community members are wondering why the 10-year-old was crossing the street at that time of night.

Jayceon would have turned 10-years-old, March 19.
