South Carolina woman faces attempted murder charges after for trying to a police officer on fire after pouring lighter fluid on him

A 38-year-old Melissa McCoy, poured lighter fluid on a police officer as he attempted to arrest her for trespassing.

Word On The Curb…a woman from South Carolina is being charged with attempting to set a police officer on fire. The woman is 38-year-old Melissa McCoy. Latta police said officers were attempting to arrest McCoy for trespassing when she started dousing the officer with lighter fluid and attempted to set him on fire with a lighter, according to WPDE-TV.

McCoy was eventually placed in handcuffs and taken to Dillon County Detention Center, where she is facing charges of attempted murder, threatening the life of a public official, trespassing, and resisting arrest, according to WMBF-TV.

The officer injured in the attack was treated at a local hospital and later released. The police have refused to release his identity.

Latta is a small town located between Charlotte and Myrtle Beach, with a population of about 1,200 people.
