According to the Greenville Police Department, four human remains that may date back to the 1990s were discovered behind the now-defunct B.G. Barrett Funeral Home on N. Greene Street in Greenville, North Carolina.
On Saturday night, a Facebook user named ‘Buck Acklin’ streamed a live video showing investigators examining an outbuilding behind the funeral home. The nearly 52–minute video appears to show officers transporting human remains on a stretcher.

In a press release, the Greenville Police Department stated that they were called to the scene around 7 p.m. Saturday after the new property owner found what looked like skeletal remains while cleaning the outbuilding.
Greenville Police, along with the Pitt County Medical Examiner’s office, confirmed that the remains were indeed human. While on the property, officers discovered three additional bodies in the outbuilding.
The Pitt County Medical Examiner’s office has taken custody of the remains for identification purposes. Investigators suspect that the remains had been in the outbuilding for a significant period, potentially since the 1990s.
The press release also indicated that the circumstances surrounding the individuals‘ deaths “do not appear to be criminal in nature.”
B.G. Barrett Funeral Home
The property was formerly the B.G. Barrett Funeral Home, owned by Boris Giles “Butch” Barrett, Sr., who passed away in January 2023.
The funeral home was closed shortly after his death, and it remains unclear whether the staff or the owner  were aware of the remains in the outbuilding.
Greenville detectives are continuing their investigation into the findings and will collaborate with other state officials to determine if there are additional remains on the property.
