Stone’s representative, Deborah R. Champagne, expressed devastation over the news, stating she had spoken with the singer just the night before, according to TMZ.

A Legacy in Music

Born on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina, Angie Stone began her musical journey singing gospel at the First Nazareth Baptist Church. She rose to prominence in the late 1970s as a member of The Sequence, the first all-female group signed to Sugar Hill Records. The trio released three albums between 1979 and 1985, with their song “Funk You Up” being notably sampled in tracks like Dr. Dre’s “Keep Their Heads Ringin'” and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.”

Transitioning to a solo career in the late 1990s, Stone’s debut album, “Black Diamond,” achieved gold status in the U.S. She continued to captivate audiences with hits such as “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” solidifying her place in the neo-soul genre.
