Halifax County detention officer arrested for allegedly handing out contraband vapes and tobacco products to inmates.
A fresh-faced Halifax County detention officer has been arrested for allegedly handing out contraband vapes and tobacco products to inmates.
Xzhavier Montre Robinson, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, was hit with a felony-charge Monday after an internal investigation revealed he provided a RAZ nicotine vaporizer and other tobacco/vapor products to at least one inmate at the Halifax County Detention Center.
According to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Robinson had been on the job for a mere two and a half months before he allegedly started playing both sides of the bars.
The bust comes after inmates themselves reportedly tipped off investigators on May 4. Some of the contraband was recovered inside the jail during the probe, authorities confirmed.
Robinson was arrested, charged with providing tobacco/vapor products to an inmate, given a $750 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Halifax District Court on June 3, 2026.
Halifax County Sheriff Tyree Davis didn’t mince words about the stunning breach of trust:
“The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center do not accept any conduct that compromises the safety, security, and integrity of its detention operations. In this instance, the inmates told on the detention officer for doing wrong. The good officers investigated the bad officer, and today the good guys won.”
Robinson has been immediately removed from his position at the detention center.
