New Hanover County Detention Officer Arrested on Stalking and Threat Charges, Fired After Just Two Months
A detention officer with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHCSO) has been arrested and charged with multiple misdemeanors.
Janison Matthew Odell, 23, was taken into custody at 5102 Dunlea Court in Wilmington, according to NHCSO’s daily bulletin. The charges include stalking, communicating threats, and second-degree trespass—all of which are misdemeanors under North Carolina law.
Odell’s arrest comes just two months after joining the Sheriff’s Office. The NHCSO acted quickly, terminating Odell’s employment immediately following the arrest. Officials cited his violation of North Carolina domestic violence statutes as the basis for dismissal.

Following his booking, Odell was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond, as ruled by a District Court Judge. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim or additional details surrounding the alleged incidents.
