The Daytona Beach Fire Department was called to the Countryside Apartments at 1200 Beville Road around midnight, where they found the 30-year-old woman, Denjah Moore, deceased with multiple stab wounds, a baby in cardiac arrest, and two other children, aged 4 and 5, suffering from injuries caused by smoke and fire.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young identified Charles Leon Ivy as the suspect in the crime, which he described as “horrific and horrendous.” In Ivy’s initial court appearance, the judge ordered him to be held without bond and to have no contact with the surviving children.

Although Ivy has not admitted to the crime, Young stated that the police tracked his cell phone and vehicle to the apartment complex and found him with the victim’s cell phone. Ivy is facing charges including two counts of premeditated first-degree murder, two counts of attempted felony murder, and one count of first-degree arson.

During a news conference, Young referred to the crime as domestic but was unable to provide a motive. He mentioned that Ivy is the father of the 4- and 5-year-olds who were “left to die in a fully involved fire.”  The 10-month-old was taken to Halifax Health in Daytona, where he later passed away. Young stated that none of the children were stabbed but suffered injuries caused by the fire. Moore had custody of all three children.

Ivy was apprehended as he was leaving his home in Ormond Beach. The State Fire Marshall began investigating and found two points of origin of the fire.
