Norman B. Kellum Jr., the longtime founder of Kellum Law Firm, died at the age of 88, according to an announcement released by the firm this week.
Kellum passed away peacefully on May 11 after dedicating more than six decades of his life to practicing law and representing clients across North Carolina, according to a press release by the law firm.
For many families throughout the eastern part of the state, Kellum’s name became synonymous with courtroom battles and personal injury cases. Over the years, he helped grow Kellum Law Firm into a widely known practice that handled cases involving serious injuries, wrongful death claims, and insurance disputes.
Colleagues described him as someone who mentored younger attorneys while remaining deeply connected to his community, church, and military roots. Even after decades in the profession, Kellum reportedly continued to be a respected figure throughout the legal world in Eastern North Carolina.
Outside of the courtroom, Kellum was also known for his longtime involvement with First Baptist Church of New Bern and his service as a veteran.
He leaves behind his wife, Ruth Kellum, along with family members and generations of colleagues and clients who knew him throughout his career.
