Amazon Delivery Driver Shot At While Delivering Packages
RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina mother and her son were shot at on December 14, 2025, while she was delivering Amazon packages. Authorities are now investigating allege racist remarks the suspect made following the incident.
Police have charged 23-year-old Sidney Pittman with discharging a weapon into an occupied property and injury to personal property, according to court documents. Pittman has since been released on a $200,000 secured bond.
What Authorities Say Happened
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on December 14, on Jones Springs Church Road in Ellerbe when Tashika Trimble, a seasonal Amazon delivery driver, was directed by GPS to what she believed was the correct delivery address.
Trimble’s 16-year-old son was riding with her at the time.
Sheriff’s officials reported that Pittman answered the door and informed Trimble she had the wrong address. Trimble then returned to her vehicle and began backing out of the driveway.
As she was leaving, authorities allege Pittman fired a shotgun in the direction of her car, striking the vehicle while it was occupied.
No injuries were reported.
Driver Describes the Encounter
At a rally attended by local civil rights advocates, Trimble publicly described the moments leading up to the alleged shooting.
“GPS directed me to an address and we turned into the driveway,” Trimble said.
She explained that her son noticed Pittman and another woman inside the home and advised her not to exit the vehicle.
After confirming the address was incorrect, Trimble said she put the car into drive.
“I put my car in drive… just about to move a little, we hear a shot, I hear little pricks hitting the car,” she said.
Trimble acknowledged that she briefly reached for her legally owned firearm but said her son urged her to leave immediately.
“My son said, ‘Mama, no. Just go,’” she recalled.
Trimble told reporters she left the area and later completed the delivery, shaken but unharmed. She said she contacted authorities following the incident. Deputies responded to Pittman’s residence on December 15, where he was taken into custody.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that a shotgun was recovered from the residence, which they believe was used in the alleged shooting.
At a recent press conference, Trimble said she was not satisfied with the charging decision.
“I feel like, of course, the charges he has currently deal with what happened, but he should have a lot more,” Trimble said. “There were two bodies in that car — it was me and my son in that car. There’s no way he should have just two charges with two people in the car. What about our lives in that car? Do we matter?”
Social Media Allegations Under Review
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office stated that investigators are also reviewing alleged racist comments Pittman is accused of posting on social media after the incident. Officials said that those posts have not been independently verified, and no additional charges related to online activity have been announced at this time.
Pittman was booked into the Richmond County Jail and later released after posting a $200,000 secured bond, according to jail records.
He is scheduled to appear in court on January 8, 2026.
