Young Thug probation social media post
Judge Paige Reese Whitaker of the Fulton County Superior Court denied a motion to revoke the probation of Grammy-winning rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams. The motion, filed by the prosecution, stemmed from a viral social media post that allegedly violated the terms of Williams’s probation.

The controversy began when Williams reposted an image of Investigator Marissa Viverito, a key member of the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, along with a caption accusing her of being “the biggest liar in the DA’s office.” The post quickly gained traction online, garnering more than 2 million views and comments, some of which included direct threats against Viverito and her family.
Prosecutors argued that this social media activity constituted a probation violation and pushed for immediate revocation. However, Judge Whitaker ruled that while the post was troubling, it did not meet the legal standard for a violation. She emphasized that Williams’s actions, though provocative, were protected under free speech and did not warrant incarceration.
Williams’s attorney, Brian Steel, echoed his client’s sentiments, asserting that the prosecution’s motion was baseless and without merit. He stated that Williams remained fully compliant with the terms of his plea agreement and expressed confidence in the court’s ruling.
With this decision, Williams will remain on probation under the original terms established in his October 2024 plea deal. He previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including gang activity, drug offenses, and weapons violations, resulting in a 40-year sentence, with five years commuted to time served and 15 years of probation. His probation terms include restricted contact with certain individuals and limitations on his travel and residency.
