Disturbing footage reveals Goldsboro police officers harassing Talek Carter before using excessive force, slamming him face-first to the ground while handcuffed
Several Goldsboro, North Carolina, police officers were caught on video harassing a Black man, Talek Carter, as he was leaving an apartment complex. The footage shows officers violently slamming him face-first to the ground by his hair while he was handcuffed.
The Goldsboro Police Department issued a statement on Wednesday, Jan. 29, claiming Carter was trespassing on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at The Grand at Day Point Apartments and had allegedly threatened employees at the complex.

The statement also accused Carter of possessing a concealed weapon. Video footage circulating on social media tells a different story: the object, reportedly a concealed weapon, can be heard hitting the ground after being thrown by an officer who removed it from Carter’s person.
Eyewitnesses and video evidence shows that Carter had already been disarmed of any weapons at the time of the excessive force used by the officers.
In the statement, the department asserted:
“Officers took the necessary steps to secure the individual and prevent any further harm to themselves. Unfortunately, the individual was injured during the arrest and received medical attention as per department protocol.”
The statement concluded by claiming that the video circulating online “does not depict the entire encounter, including the four-minute struggle with officers prior to the moment shown.”
Video obtained by The North Carolina Beat paints a troubling picture of the events leading up to Carter’s arrest. The footage shows Carter walking across the parking lot of the complex as two Goldsboro officers follow him. Carter can be heard telling them, “I’m going to get off their property, that’s the law, right? I know the law, I know my rights… okay, they said get off their property, so I’m going to get off their property.”
Talek Carter, attempting to leave the property, repeatedly told officers he was following the law and leaving as they continued following him.
“I’m going to get off their property like you said,” Carter says. “You don’t have to harass me, you don’t have to walk up on me like I’m—I’m not wrong.”
Despite his attempts to comply, the officers are seen aggressively roughing up Carter, taking him to the ground. One officer could be seen looking directly at the camera.
Footage show officers attempting to search Carter at their patrol car, as he tells them he is disabled. One officer can be seen slamming Carter’s head into the patrol car window while he attempts to get the officers off him.
