A North Carolina father is now sitting behind bars after deputies say his infant son died from what investigators are calling suspicious injuries.
According to the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were contacted on April 28 by doctors at Brenner Children’s Hospital regarding a 2.5-month-old baby boy who had been rushed to the hospital suffering from severe injuries.
Authorities say the infant, identified as Preston Perdue, later died from those injuries.
The case triggered an investigation involving the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Stokes County detectives.
After reviewing evidence and conducting interviews, investigators identified the child’s father, Colby Perdue, as the suspect in the case.
Officials announced Friday that Perdue was arrested and charged with murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.
Law enforcement says he is currently being held inside the Stokes County Jail without bond.
Court records show Perdue is scheduled to appear in court on May 12.
At this time, investigators have not publicly released additional details about what led to the infant’s injuries or exactly how the child died.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
