WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A planned fight between young people escalated into a deadly mass shooting Monday morning near Leinbach Park, leaving two people dead and multiple others wounded.

According to Winston-Salem Police, officers were dispatched around 9:52 a.m. to reports of a fight breaking out near Leinbach Park off Sally Kirk Road (also near Robinhood Road). Before police could arrive, the confrontation turned into gunfire, with multiple individuals shooting at each other.

Forsyth County EMS transported several victims to area hospitals.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has confirmed this as a mass shooting, with two people killed and additional victims injured.
Some of those involved are reported to be juveniles. Police have located several victims and suspects, though the search for others continues.
As the shooting happened, nearby schools took immediate precautions. Jefferson Middle School and Mount Tabor High School were placed on secure hold while law enforcement secured the area.Â
