14-month-old NY baby dead after her grandma forgot to drop her off at daycare

A 14-month-old girl died in Long Island after her grandmother claimed she forgot to drop her off at daycare and instead left her inside a hot SUV for eight hours.

Is this a case of drugs or NAH?!

Suffolk County police said they were called to Redwood Lane around 4:20 p.m. Monday for a report of an unresponsive child. First responders rushed the baby to Saint Catherine of Siena Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

According to preliminary investigations, the 54-year-old grandmother was supposed to take the child to daycare on Monday morning. Instead, the woman drove straight to work, “leaving the child in a car seat in the backseat,” according to investigators. Investigators say the woman went to the daycare on Red Wood Lane to pick up her granddaughter eight hours later and realized she had left her inside her maroon 2018 Jeep Cherokee.

Investigators have not charged the grandmother in the girl’s death as of yet, but the investigation is ongoing.

Temperatures reached a high of 83 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday, according to weather meteorologists.

  1. This is exactly why you do not put kids behind the driver seat. If they are in a carrier you put them in the center rear facing otherwise the go behind the passenger seat so there is no way to miss them getting out of the car. Im a little old school so I put my purse on the floor behind the passenger seat or at leat in the back seat. Its not to remind me that I have a child in the car because I dont have any and no longer tote/keep other peoples kids its just something I have always done but I also do not want anyone walking up to my car at a red light or gas station and trying to rob me because the see it on the front seat.
I just honestly do not understand how you forget that you have a child with you whether it is regularly or every once in a while but especially if you are the parent. You should be using you rear and side view mirrors as well as checking your blind spots while driving and parking so even behind the drivers seat you should catch a glimpse of a child or at least the car seat in the back seat. I think people are just careless.
