35-Year-Old Winston-Salem Man Charged With Statutory Rape and Kidnapping of Teen Victim
A 35-year-old man is behind bars in Forsyth County after authorities say he raped a 15-year-old child and kidnapped them from one location to another.
According to arrest warrants obtained by The North Carolina Beat, Sylvester Bryant Gist Jr., a resident of Echo Glen Drive in Winston-Salem, was taken into custody on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, and formally charged with statutory rape of a child aged 15, statutory rape of a child, , statutory sex offense with child <= 15 and felonious kidnapping.

Warrants state that Gist Jr. “did engage in vaginal intercourse with a juvenile (15),” and that he unlawfully removed the child from one location to another for the purpose of committing statutory rape.
GIST HELD UNDER $1 MILLION BOND
Gist Jr. is currently being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 secured bond.
As part of the bond conditions, a judge has ordered that Gist have no contact with the prosecuting witness while the case is pending, which is standard in cases involving minors and serious sex offenses.
Gist Jr.’s next scheduled court appearance is on Wednesday, September 25, 2025, at the Forsyth County Courthouse.
