Chestnut is also charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder for injuring 37-year-old Tiffany Fogg of Wilson in the shooting. She was transported to Wilson Medical Center, where she is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

As we reported earlier, sources told The North Carolina Beat that this all stemmed from Chestnut attempting to evicting Sutton and her son, Avantae, from their home. In a video obtained by The North Carolina Beat, Chestnut appears to be at the residence of Sutton and her son. Sutton can be heard on the phone with someone, during which Chestnut can be heard telling the person on the line:

“They gotta go today,” Chestnut says. “They can record all they want, they can record all they want… they getting out today.”

The video, which was streamed live as Chestnut confronted Sutton, has since been deleted.

  1. You have to go through the courts to get someone evicted. Even if the police were called to remove them, they wouldn’t be able to do so without eviction papers from the court. Now he in jail facing charges in which I hope justice is served for this mother and son..smh this world is so sad. We all need Jesus so bad.

  2. When renting you run the risk of tenants not paying. Lack of rent payments was not an excuse to kill or injure them. Take the delinquent tenants through the court system! I hope he never gets out. He is not sorry. Property owners should stop renting if they can’t afford to live without rent payments for a few months. It’s a risk you take.

  3. Sounds like a relationship that went wrong. No papers were filed. And he just snapped. But I’m not here to judge anyone. What I will say is that is a very sad situation for all families involved. Praying that justice will be served.

  4. As a landlord I understand what happened, When people are in your house and won’t pay rent, you feel violated. You are loosing money and possibly your house. The thought to get a gun and chase them out will cross your mind especially, if you’re licensed to carry. I have had to talk myself off the ledge many times. I do not condone what he did. He is probably upset at himself cause now he’s got to face jail time. I hope people understand that these are hard times and some people will snap. I had a guy in my house during Covid that racked up $7500.00 in past due rent. I took the law in my own hands and threw his stuff in storage. I got arrested for it and then he had the nerve to sue me for $200.00 and win. You can play with people cause you’re also playing with your life. I tell my relatives if you can’t pay, then leave don’t make people take you to court and this here is why.

    1. As a landlord, during COVID, you were given monies for tenants that weren’t able to pay. All you had to do was complete paperwork and register. Illegally evicting someone made you lose more money 🤦🏽‍♀️Shooting someone over past due rent is ridiculously stupid! Now all his dedication and work for his non profit is down the toilet… how can you build your brand on bridging gaps yet also be apart of the problem.

    2. If you’ve had violent thoughts of shooting someone over a house, you’re part of the problem. There is absolutely no reason to justify what he did. You nor him, should be landlords. Financial loss due to nonpayment is a risk to ALL landlords. If you’re not mentally or economically capable of withstanding said loss, stop renting. It’s that simple.

    3. You don’t need to be a Landlord if the thought of getting a GUN to get someone out of your property crossed your mind. It’s not that serious. U have protections as a Landlord.

    4. Then you also must also understand how one feels when a slum Lord will not make the necessary repairs in a home. There is no justification for innocent lives that were taken or injured just none. He was clearly told by the proper authorities to leave and take the proper procedures to evict. The special needs victim for real and you say you can understand how he felt as a landlord. You can never understand how a man feels loosing his wife and a child and a sister loosing her sister and a fifteen year old going to school and coming home and his mother and brother are dead. A permit to carry a weapon does not give you the authority to commit murder I don’t care what the situation.

  5. Regardless of what there was two lies that was lost. This guy supposed to been a mentor. He supposed to been everything that people say he is and people need to stop defending people who do careless acts of violence which should never happen. He was wrong. He should let the law handle it regardless of what other situation may have been going on. He took two lives and try to take another damn him and f*** him evil a*s

  6. I don’t think he went there saying I’m going to murder ppl. But no matter what because he’s a black man that used a gun , whether itself defense or not he’s still to blame for it

    1. This isn’t a black thing….as a landlord there are ways to handle things. You cant go the hood way and attempt to do things your own way. He should had them evicted by the courts and the sheriff would’ve removed them. He took a gun to a tenants residence and attempted to intimidate them to leave. Hes dead a*s wrong.

    2. Now how you going to say because he’s a black man. I’m black and this sentence makes no damn sense. HE KILLED SOMEBODY. 2 people to be exact. He needs the death penalty NOW!

      1. I don’t condone what he did but people have been squatting in homes where they haven’t paid rent since the beginning of Covid it’s not as easy as people think to evict people so to make comments about him not being able to afford to rent his house he shouldn’t be in the business is ignorant and there are consequences and repercussions in everything you do and everyone has a breaking point

    3. Don’t start if he wasn’t black sh$$ because he was wrong no matter what color and he didn’t set out to kill anyone he left the house house with a gun going to evict someone

    4. He might have but he did and it was his own stupidity and power tripping that has him facing first degree murder and attempted murder.

    5. i think he did you go there with a gun and then adamantly say they are getting out that day with no legal rights to do it. it should be premeditated murder.

  7. No matter why he was there, he should have never pulled out a gun. And if he was such a good community leader and mentor to the kids, what does this say to the children in Wilson?? They did not need to see or know that the person they looked up to resolved his issues with a gun. Got enough gun problems right now, especially with the kids.

  8. Need to know the whole story. Yes there are instances when you have to take someone’s life. We don’t know what happen. Why were they being evicted. Seems like there was more to the situation.

    1. Really wait to see you think there are instances where a grown male needs to shoot a woman and her child – that’s really sad. Praying God with soften your heart for humanity and people that are going through financial difficulty 🙏🙏🙏

    2. There’s no more situation when you kill two people injured another one that’s a total of three. What situation could have been done besides leaving going to the Law where he gonna find out and that’s the most ignorant comment I’ve seen today. We could have two ladies and a 21-year-old due to a grown man. Damn P***Y

  9. Sometimes you can’t be so hard, compassion beats anger any day. Always be human first and remember we own nothing not even ourselves!

  10. For eviction process use the court system’s!!! You killed 2 innocent people, you killed a mom and son…. They will never see there kids again

  11. Unpaid rent is no reason to murder two people and injure another. I don’t care what nonprofit he has, he killed two people. There are other children that were not home to witness this. They are lost without their loved ones. This was a senseless and disgusting act. You are not defending yourself in someone else’s home.

  12. I have known Donta since we were kids. He was a good kid and grew into an even better man. He is educated and gives back to the community. He actually cares about people! All people! He does not operate on hate. People should wait for details of the case to come out before passing judgement. I’m sure he was carrying legally and any violence was likely self defense. People are so quick to pass judgement.

    1. Details don’t matter. You can not go to someone else’s house ( legally it was still their house) with a gun and damn thing go your way. That’s not how it works. If anything the family in the house should have been the ones in defense mood!!! There is no excuse for his behavior. Stop trying to make one!!!

    2. Regardless, my cousins didn’t deserve to be murdered by this “educated man who gives back to the community”. For him to show up with a gun LEGALLY carrying or illegally carrying, he wanted an issue.

    3. You are trying your hardest to sound educated because you personally know this coward and you sound stupid ! It doesn’t matter if he was legally carrying. He should have legally waited for the police before taking matters into his own hands now he will pay with his career his freedom and his every day life ruined .

    4. I know Donta also and this isn’t in his character to just up and shoot somebody. There’s definitely more to this story because it’s just don’t seem right to me.

    5. Everything you said is irrelevant HE KILLED 2 people. 2 unarmed people. You honestly think he’s going to be judged on what you say is a “good man”. Good men don’t go around murdering people.

    6. When he killed them he became very uneducated and ignorant! The fact you didn’t have the decency to offer condolences to their family is diabolical. So to hell with you and that murder and I hope and pray he never sees the light of day ever again!!!

  13. You can’t take matters into your own hand
It’s a Legal Process you have to go through to Evict someone
This is a situation that Two people were killed and another person injured
And a person in jail for Murder
    Could have been avoided
If the right authority had been notified
and the situation handled in the right manner
    A very very sad situation
    Prayers for them all

  14. For one where was the evacuation papers where was the police it’s something more to this story you just can’t confront ppls like that and tell them they gotta go without any legal paper work and why did he come to those folks home with a gun instead of the law nah this just don’t sit right it’s more to this story .

    1. Does that really matter? Who cares if that was the case, he can’t just demand for people to leave, there’s clearly a process that his crazy a*s didn’t follow! He took a mother and her son from their loved one’s, completely unacceptable! His stupid a*s still will not be collecting any rent money, good enough for his evil a*s!

    1. He just killed two people A mother & son what you think both had guns? He wouldn’t be locked up for self defense and the report doesn’t mention self defense!!!
