A Vance County father charged with murder is now behind bars after his two teenage children were found dead inside their home, as investigators work to uncover what led to the tragic killings.

VANCE COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina father was arrested and charged in the deaths of his own children.

According to the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Torri Drive in Vance County on February 9, 2026, around 9:40 p.m. after getting a call that two people were dead inside.

When they arrived, authorities confirmed the victims were two teenage siblings — a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy.

THE VICTIMS IDENTIFIED

While officials have not publicly released the names, The North Carolina Beat has identified the victims as:

  • 13-year-old Aniyah Newsome
  • 17-year-old Aaron Newsome

The identities were confirmed through court documents tied to the family.

Authorities also revealed that two other children — ages 12 and 16 — lived in the home at the time, but their identities are being withheld.

FATHER NOW CHARGED

The children’s father, 46-year-old Aron Newsome, has now been taken into custody and is facing some serious charges:

  • Two counts of second-degree murder
  • One count of felony child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury (related to the 13-year-old)

COURT DOCUMENTS EXPOSE FAMILY DRAMA BEFORE THE TRAGEDY

According to an absolute divorce complaint filed by the children’s mother, Jacqueline Jones, now back to her maiden name, Little – the couple had already been going through it behind the scenes.

They were married on April 11, 2007, but separated on January 14, 2023, before Jacqueline filed for divorce on June 5, 2025.

In the filing, Jones confirmed the couple shared four children together, including the two teens who are now dead.

A hearing was scheduled — but Aron Newsome never showed up, and the judge finalized the divorce on August 5, 2025.

INVESTIGATION STILL ACTIVE

Right now, investigators have not publicly released how the teens died or what exactly led up to the tragedy inside that home.

The case remains under active investigation.
