Beloved 8th grader Sameg Miller remembered for her bright spirit, love of music, and lasting impact on her school community
CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C.— The West Craven Middle School community is mourning the loss of Sameg Miller, an eighth-grade student remembered for her bright smile, bold personality, and the positive energy she brought to everyone around her.
District officials and classmates describe Sameg as a light in the hallways — always full of life, laughter, and creativity. Friends say she made an impact not just through her personality, but through the way she connected with others.
Sameg suffered catastrophic injuries in a head-on vehicle collision in Atlanta on September 7, 2019, when the force of the crash caused her brain stem to separate from her spinal cord. After a long fight, her life was ultimately claimed by those injuries.

Music was one of Sameg’s greatest joys. She frequently shared songs with classmates and teachers, including her favorite, “Smile” by Kirk Franklin. She was also active in dance clubs, enjoyed spending time with friends, and loved hearing stories. One of her favorite books was Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, a novel many say reflected her big heart and depth.
Known for her strong sense of style, Sameg also took pride in how she dressed. More importantly, she was deeply loved by her school, her teachers, and her classmates, who say her spirit left a lasting impression.
School officials are asking the public to keep Sameg’s family, friends, teachers, and classmates in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
Her memory, they say, will live on in the classrooms, the friendships she built, and the many lives she touched in her short time.
