Raleigh Police Officer Kyle Epps Terminated

The Raleigh Police Department has confirmed that Senior Officer Kyle Epps is no longer employed with the agency. Epps, who had served on the force since October 2017, was fired on April 5, 2025, following the conclusion of an internal investigation. The department has not disclosed the exact reasons for his termination.

While details about the internal probe remain sealed due to North Carolina’s strict confidentiality laws, the fallout is big. The Wake County District Attorney’s Office has started dismissing or re-evaluating numerous criminal cases involving Raleigh police officer Kyle Epps as the arresting officer.

Wake County DA Lorrin Freeman said her office is in the process of determining which parts of the investigation must be shared with defense attorneys to ensure due process. Freeman noted that while some cases will be dismissed due to low public safety concerns, others are still undergoing legal review.

Senior Raleigh police officer Kyle Epps, terminated in April 2025, is at the center of a legal firestorm as prosecutors review his past arrests due to concerns raised during an internal investigation.

The DA’s office is also working with the courts to determine what information from the internal report is required to be disclosed in pending or open cases.

This situation mirrors another recent case in North Carolina, where nearly 200 charges were dropped after misconduct concerns arose involving two State Highway Patrol troopers. However, officials have clarified that Epps’ dismissal is not connected to that incident.
