Law enforcement officials have arrested 43-year-old Aaron Deuel on a series of serious charges, including possession of a weapon of mass destruction and multiple drug-related offenses, following a tense incident on Sunday evening.
Deputies with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office responded to Banks Road near Spring Farm Road after receiving reports of a man firing a gun into the air in his front yard. Upon arrival, deputies located and arrested Deuel, securing the area and obtaining a search warrant for the property.

During the search, authorities discovered controlled substances, bomb-making materials, and a suspected metal pipe bomb. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s bomb squad* was immediately called in to safely assess and secure the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the operation.
Deuel now faces a range of charges, including:
– Two counts of felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction
– Felony possession of methamphetamine
– Additional firearm and drug-related charges
According to law enforcement records, officers had been dispatched to Deuel’s residence nine times within the past year. Family members say Deuel suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following his service in Iraq. His mother expressed concern for his mental health, saying she’s unsure how to help him despite repeated efforts.
Deuel is currently being held on a $150,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 11. Authorities say the investigation remains active as they continue working to ensure public safety in the community.
