Pinecrest High School football player killed as passenger in car crash

A football star, Brycen Mabe, a beloved 17-year-old football star at Pinecrest High School, tragically lost his life in a car accident and was kept on life support, leaving his family, friends, and school community in deep sorrow.

In a heart-wrenching incident on Thursday night, Brycen met his untimely demise in a collision at the intersection of Fairway Drive and Central Drive in Southern Pines around 10 p.m. Reports from the Southern Pines Police Department revealed that Brycen was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved.

As per authorities present at the location, a Volkswagen Jetta traveling along Fairway Drive disregarded a stop sign and entered the path of a Chevrolet Malibu heading towards the Moore County Airport on Central Drive.

The Jetta proceeded through the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a cluster of trees.

Firefighters had to forcibly open both driver’s side doors to extract the occupants from the Jetta. Subsequently, all three individuals were transferred to Moore Regional Hospital since air transportation was not feasible due to adverse weather conditions.

Brycen, a rising senior and a key player on the football team, had dedicated three years of his high school life to the sport. The Pinecrest Patriot Football Facebook page shared the devastating news, highlighting Brycen’s unwavering commitment to the team during his time at Pinecrest High.

“As a varsity started and rising senior, he showed up everyday with a blue collar work ethic and an obvious love for the game,” Pincrest Patriot Football said in their statement. “Brycen was the epitome of football.

On Monday, Brycen’s mother confirmed that he was removed from life support. In a heartfelt message on GoFundMe, she shared that they were finding solace in their faith and described Brycen as someone who was truly passionate about football and unafraid to share his love for Jesus with others.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash.
