A one-eyed man in North Carolina has been convicted of second-degree forcible rape and simple assault, receiving a prison sentence of 73-148 months in prison with an additional 30 days.
Luis Miguel Vail-Lopez, 22, was found guilty of attacking a 19-year-old woman on September 19, 2022, in the Dickerson Park area of Monroe. According to court records, Vail-Lopez stalked the victim before grabbing her and dragging her into an abandoned property near Engleside Street and Iceman Street, where he committed the assault.
Union County District Attorney Trey Robison praised the victim’s bravery for testifying against her attacker in court.
Upon his release, Vail-Lopez faces possible deportation to Guatemala. If allowed to remain in the U.S., he will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
