Video shows CMPD school resource officer body-slamming a teenage girl at West Charlotte High — sparking outrage

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA —A video from West Charlotte High School is still making its rounds online, showing what appears to be a school resource officer body-slamming a female student during dismissal on Friday afternoon.

The disturbing clip shows chaos breaking out as students fight — then the moment the officer grabs one student, lifts her off the ground, and slams her head-first onto the pavement.

According to the girl’s father, she suffered a subdural hematoma and is dealing with emotional trauma after the incident.

Witnesses say the brawl broke out just as students were heading home. Officers were already present to help control dismissal when the altercation escalated.

In the viral video, a girl can be seen throwing punches while another student lies on the ground. Seconds later, the officer steps in — but instead of de-escalating, he uses violent force, picking the student up and slamming her down.

“He picked her up… I see her in the air and all she did was get slammed… she was only 90 pounds,” one eyewitness said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed that the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending both a criminal probe and an internal affairs review.

CMPD’s Criminal Investigations Bureau is determining whether the level of force used was excessive, while Internal Affairs reviews whether department policies were violated.

The officer’s name has not yet been publicly released.

The student’s father said his daughter is now hospitalized and will continue her education remotely while she recovers.

Parents and students across Charlotte are calling for accountability and transparency from CMPD and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District (CMS).

School officials acknowledged the incident in a brief statement, saying they are cooperating with law enforcement and providing support to affected students.
