Johnson, a 25-year-old resident of Bermuda Bay near Tabor City, was reported missing on February 13, 2025. His body was discovered five days later, on February 18, near a pond several hundred yards from his home.

Preliminary autopsy results determined that Johnson’s death was not a suicide, prompting law enforcement to rule it as a homicide. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office launched a public appeal for information on February 17, after Johnson’s mother reported him missing.
Reports indicate that Johnson was last seen around 3 a.m. on February 13, leaving his home without his phone, wallet, or bank cards.
