The mysterious death of Messiah Robinson in the Cape Fear River is causing outrage as his mother demands a full investigation, questioning what really happened.
ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. – A grieving North Carolina mother is speaking out and calling for answers after her son, Messiah Robinson, died in the Cape Fear River.
In an emotional social media post shared widely on Facebook, Nakeia Coston-McKiver described dropping her son off near a KFC and Dollar General, believing he was heading to a friend’s house for a haircut. She says it was the last time she saw him alive.
According to Coston-McKiver, she later learned that Messiah and a group of friends went to the Cape Fear River instead. While initial accounts suggest the teen entered the water first, his mother strongly disputes that narrative.
“I am being told that my son entered the river first, but in my heart and in my soul, I do not believe that,” she wrote. “As his mother, I knew my child. We have been around water many times—lakes, beaches, family gatherings—and Messiah never once attempted to get into the water. He could not swim. He knew he could not swim.”
Coston-McKiver emphasized that something about the circumstances “does not make sense” to her and expressed deep pain over how her son ended up in the river. She noted that several individuals present at the time are reportedly minors, which she says has delayed questioning.
At this point, she believes there is a strong possibility that Messiah may have been pushed into the water during horseplay.
“I am not saying it was intentional,” she clarified, “but I do not believe he got into that river on his own.”
The mother has issued an urgent plea for a complete, transparent, and thorough investigation.
“I am begging, pleading, and demanding a full investigation into what happened to my son. I need answers. I need the truth. My family deserves that,” she stated.
She added:
“My son’s life mattered. His story matters. And the truth matters.”
Coston-McKiver ended her post saying:
“Messiah deserved so much more than this. He deserved to come home. And I will not stop until I know exactly what happened to my baby.”
Authorities have not yet released anything to the public about the incident and it’s unclear when it happened.
