Tiana Melvin told local reporters that those individuals have not been caught.
Melvin told WRAL that she had Thanksgiving dinner with her 25-year-old son, Evonte Melvin-McNeil, but he has not been heard from or seen since. According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Evonte was last seen at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Friends and family members disputed Cape Fear Valley Medical Center as Evonte’s last known location, stating that the Fayetteville Police Department was where he was last seen.
“I want to find my son,” Melvin told the outlet.
The Fayetteville community has been searching for answers regarding the whereabouts of Evonte since his disappearanceon November 24.
Melvin said the last conversation she had with her son was standing outside of the Fayetteville Police Department. She had told Evonte to go there because he said someone was following him.
“He said somebody was following him,” Melvin told WRAL. “I told him to drive to the police department and see if they follow you into the police department.”
Melvin also added that Evonte has been experiencing mental health problems since the death of his 16-year-old brother, Konye Melvin, who was shot along with three other individuals during a home invasion.
She said that Evonte believed that the same people who killed his brother were after him.
Melvin told the outlet that the day after Thanksgiving, Evonte experienced medical issues, prompting him to go to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center but later to the police department after Evonte told her someone was following him. She added that he was on probation and wearing an ankle monitor at the time.
Melvin said she does not believe her son would have removed the monitor to evade probation.
Fayetteville police are urging anyone with information regarding the location of 25-year-old Evonte Melvin-McNeil to contact 911.
