The Mayor of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has verified that a tragic shooting in her city on Saturday night stemmed from a heated argument over parking that escalated into violence.

At approximately 10:49 p.m. that evening, Myrtle Beach police were alerted to a shooting incident in the 2300-Block of North Ocean Boulevard. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of Cedric Keaunte Reddick, a 31-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina.

Reddick had just marked his 31st birthday in January before the untimely event unfolded on that fateful Saturday night.

“It is just very unfortunate that some people choose to handle something as simple as a parking dispute with violence. I think that overshadows what the meaning of Memorial Day is,” Mayor Brenda Bethune told News13.

The suspect involved in the shooting has been named as Anthony Maurice Garner, a 44-year-old individual from Albemarle, North Carolina. Garner has been charged by the police with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
