North Carolina immigration enforcement bills
North Carolina Democratic lawmakers have introduced two new bills aimed at restricting local law enforcement from assisting federal immigration authorities in specific locations such as religious institutions, schools, hospitals, farmland, and construction sites.
House Bill 78 and House Bill 80 seek to establish safe zones for immigrant communities by prohibiting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities. House Bill 78, if passed, would prevent local law enforcement agencies from aiding ICE in making immigration-related arrests or serving deportation warrants in locations deemed essential to community welfare.
Similarly, House Bill 80 seeks to prohibit immigration enforcement actions on farmland and construction sites—sectors heavily reliant on immigrant labor.
The bills are primarily sponsored by Representatives Deb Butler and Renee Price. Despite the support from Democratic lawmakers, the bills face significant challenges in a Republican-controlled General Assembly.
The bills are currently under review in the House Rules, Calendar, and Operations Committee, where they await further consideration.
I am a democrat with a big D, but, yeah, limiting law enforcement as they try to arrest law breakers (illegals) is dumb.
Hire Black folks. We are legal.
