The Ashanti Alert issued for a couple who were discovered deceased from gunshot wounds has been terminated by the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.

Evidence indicates that Greg Gobble fatally shot Cynthia Gobble before taking his own life, with a weapon recovered at the scene of the incident. The alert was activated for Greg and Cynthia on Thursday, but they were located on Friday morning around 11 a.m. in a wooded area within Iredell County near Sheffield Road. Additionally, a Ford truck mentioned in the alert was also located at the scene.

Welfare check call

On Thursday at approximately 10 p.m., the Davie County Sheriff’s Office was called to conduct a welfare check on Cynthia Gobble following unsuccessful attempts by her family to reach her. Authorities reported that the couple was last observed in the vicinity of Country Lane, Campbell Road, and Highway 601 in Mocksville, as per the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.

Ongoing separation and divorce

Investigators were informed of an ongoing separation and divorce between Cynthia and her husband Greg. It was verified by investigators that Cynthia was not present at Country Lane in Mocksville, but indications suggested she may not have left voluntarily. Family members searched other possible locations where either Cynthia or Greg Gobble could be found and made efforts to locate them.

During the search for the couple, Greg’s Ford truck could not be found, although it was established that he had driven the truck earlier that day. Following the unsuccessful search for the couple, an Ashanti Alert was issued for them and their vehicle.

Two bodies found

On Friday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a notification regarding the discovery of two deceased individuals near Sheffield Road, just beyond the county border. Subsequently, the Davie County Sheriff’s Office was informed by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, and both law enforcement agencies confirmed the identities of the deceased as Cynthia and Greg Gobble.

Our condolences and sympathies are extended to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
