The search for promising young athlete Nolan Wells has ended in absolute heartbreak.
On Monday, July 6, 2026, a park ranger discovered a body matching the 18-year-old’s description washed up on the northwest end of Horn Island, Mississippi.
The family has now confirmed it’s their son — the Ocean Springs teen and Southwest Mississippi Community College wide receiver who vanished during a Fourth of July boating celebration just two days earlier.
Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter said the remains were found around 8:45 a.m. He was last seen Saturday afternoon on the western tip of the island’s north side — wearing nothing but blue swim trunks, sunglasses, and no shirt.
What Really Happened On The July 4th Trip?
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, Nolan headed to crowded Horn Island with friends for a holiday boating celebration.
He was last seen in the afternoon on the western/north side. Reports say he was spotted chatting with a girl he’d just met that day. His friends reportedly left the island without him — assuming he’d caught another ride back to the mainland.
His cell phone was later recovered.
Officials have not released an official cause of death. Some reports point to no immediate evidence of foul play and suggest drowning is possible given the circumstances. But social media is already exploding with calls for Justice for Nolan.
