A North Carolina woman, Jasmine Hughes, alleges that her car was damaged with a huge rock by a man she had served papers to for unpaid bills in Shelby, North Carolina. She further claims the man’s wife hurled racial slurs at her on Facebook following the incident.
Hughes told The North Carolina Beat that on December 7, 2024, she was tasked with serving a man named Justin Murray, who allegedly failed to make payments on a motorcycle. As part of her job, she explained the process of serving individuals: placing legal documents in an envelope marked “confidential,” taking a photo of the paperwork at the address, and leaving the papers at the residence.
“As I’m getting in my car, I see him (Justin) and I’m like, ‘Hey sir, I put the note on your door,’ and he’s like, ‘Come here,’” Hughes recounted Justin having a loud angry tone. “He’s still telling me to come here, and I’m saying to myself, ‘This man is crazy.’”
According to Hughes, she refused to approach him and instead got into her car. That’s when the situation allegedly escalated.
“I get in my car and reverse, he took a big huge rock, stood at his mailbox, and threw it,” she said.
Hughes shared photos of the damage to her car, which she claims was caused by the rock.

Online Harassment Allegations
Later that morning, Hughes said she received a Facebook message from Justin’s wife, Danielle Murray. The initial message allegedly read, “You are barking up the wrong f***ing tree!!”

In response, Hughes replied, “Nope y’all did. See you in court.” Danielle allegedly continued the conversation, saying, “Just know keep on.” Hughes replied, “My car will be fixed one way or another.”
Danielle allegedly warned Hughes that she was lucky Danielle didn’t come outside. She also allegedly bragged about her husband’s criminal past, claiming he had served 12 years in prison for attempted murder, stemming from an incident involving a baseball bat.
The conversation culminated with Danielle allegedly using a racial slur. Hughes reported that Danielle wrote, “Bye N*gg**,” during their exchange.

Legal Action Taken
Justin Murray has been charged with misdemeanor injury to personal property, according to court records we obtained and his next court appearance is scheduled for February 17, 2025.
