A 5-year-old boy named Khalil Ali Echoles was fatally stabbed inside his own home after his father allegedly kicked down the door and stormed into the child’s bedroom. The boy’s mother made a 911 call as the situation happened, and young Khalil was later pronounced dead at the hospital despite desperate efforts by police to save him.
According to Pineville Police, 31-year-old Jehaaz-Akil Khaliq Echoles — the boy’s father and the mother’s ex — forced his way into an apartment at the Sabal Point Apartments in Pineville, North Carolina, just after midnight on July 9, 2026, where Khalil lived with his mom, sibling, and grandmother.
He allegedly went straight into the 5-year-old’s bedroom and closed the door. The mother immediately called 911, reporting that the child’s father had broken in. A newly released 911 call captures the terrifying moments as she desperately told dispatchers what was happening.

When she opened the door, she found her son bleeding and unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. She held Khalil in her arms as officers arrived. Police say they immediately started life-saving measures and rushed the boy to the hospital in a patrol car — but it was too late.
Khalil Ali Echoles was pronounced dead from his injuries.
