Nash County deputies say a corrections officer was arrested after allegedly planning to smuggle synthetic drugs into the prison.
NASH COUNTY, N.C. – The jailhouse hustle got shut all the way down Wednesday morning after a Nash Correctional Institution officer was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs to an inmate. And the sheriff’s office says the amount of contraband she was moving was not a little bit.
According to The Nash County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, staff at Nash Correctional contacted them around 11:00 a.m. on November 26, 2025, after suspecting one of their own officers was planning to sneak contraband inside the prison.
Deputies rolled up, gathered statements from prison staff, and confronted the officer involved — identified as Shanese Shante Sanders, of Enfield. After opening an investigation, deputies conducted a probable cause search of Sanders’ vehicle and reportedly found the goods she was planning to drop off.
Authorities say the search uncovered 98 grams of K2 (synthetic cannabinoid) and 19 grams of Suboxone, both wrapped up in clear plastic and allegedly destined for an inmate inside the prison.
Sanders received a $70,000 secured bond and was charged with multiple felonies, including:
-
PWISD Synthetic Cannabinoid
-
Conspiracy to Deliver Synthetic Cannabinoid
-
PWISD Schedule III Controlled Substance
-
Conspiracy to Sell/Deliver Schedule III Controlled Substance
-
Possession of Controlled Substance on Prison Premises (2 counts)
Officials say Sanders has since bonded out.
