A 36-year-old Florida woman told authorities that she had planned the murder of her 8-year-old son two days before she strangled him with a tablecloth earlier this week.
Shaneka Ann McKinzie, a 36-year-old woman, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of her 8-year-old son, Jaisyn Burgos, in Miami-Dade.
According to Miami-Dade Police officials, McKinzie brought her unconscious son to Hialeah Hospital on Tuesday evening, where he was pronounced dead. A subsequent autopsy conducted by a medical examiner revealed that the cause of death was strangulation.

McKinzie confessed to authorities that she had been planning her son’s murder for two days prior to the incident. She reportedly used a tablecloth to suffocate and strangle her son while he was asleep in the rear passenger seat of her car.
Following the murder, McKinzie proceeded to run errands around the county with her son’s body in the car.
Detective Andre Martin of the Miami-Dade Police expressed disbelief at the actions of McKinzie, stating that it is incomprehensible for a parent to not only plan the murder of their child but also continue with their day as if nothing had occurred.
McKinzie, who is homeless and had relocated to South Florida from Missouri with her son, was denied bond and appointed a public defender during her court appearance. It was also revealed that the child’s father had passed away a few years prior, and the family was living in various hotels, with the child not attending school.
