23-year-old Riley Tehy Wormington was apprehended on February 18, 2025, by the U.S. Marshals Service in Denver, Colorado, after a year-long investigation, for the death of her child under the age of two.
Last year, on February 13, 2024, Mooresville Police responded to a medical emergency at a residence located at 407 Ridge Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a child under the age of two. An investigation revealed that the child had ingested a lethal dose of fentanyl.
Following the investigation, Riley Tehy Wormington now faces a range of serious charges, including:
- Second-degree murder
- Felony child abuse
- Felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance
- Felony maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance
- Possession of drug paraphernalia

Wormington’s arrest follows mounting evidence linking her to the child’s death, with authorities now confirming that she will be extradited to North Carolina to face these charges. After the child’s death, investigators found that Wormington had relocated out of state shortly after giving birth to a second child.
