Michael Loyde is charged in Wilmington after police say his wife, Ebony Boles, was fatally shot inside a Bladen Street home.
WILMINGTON, N.C. –A North Carolina man now sitting behind bars for allegedly murdering his wife is no stranger to the criminal justice system — and court records show his violent past stretches back more than a decade.
Police have charged 58-year-old Michael Tyrone Loyde with murder in the fatal shooting of his wife, Ebony Boles. Loyde is currently locked up in the New Hanover County Jail with no bond, awaiting his first court appearance later today.

According to records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, Loyde has served multiple stints behind bars, with his most recent sentence ending in 2022.
Loyde’s criminal history is packed with violence-related convictions, including:
-
2019: Convicted in Brunswick County for assault with a deadly weapon
-
2015: Charged by Wilmington police with assault on a female
-
2010: Charged in New Hanover County with assault on a female
Authorities have not confirmed whether any of those past cases involved the same woman he’s now accused of killing.

But that’s not all. Loyde’s rap sheet also includes convictions for common law robbery, speeding to elude arrest, and financial card fraud, with records dating all the way back to 2010.
Wilmington police say officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Bladen Street around 3:30 p.m. Friday, December 12, after a 911 call came in. By the time officers arrived, Loyde had already fled the scene.
Inside the home, officers found Ebony Boles suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
