Craven County Deputies Charge 18-Year-Old Jamiaz Perkins-Coats with Sex Offense Involving a Mino
An 18-year-old man from New Bern is facing serious charges after police say he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 16.
According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, the report came in on July 30, sparking an immediate investigation. After speaking with the District Attorney’s Office, investigators arrested Jamiaz Perkins-Coats on child sex offense charges.
Police have not released full details of the incident, but warrants confirm the alleged victim is a minor under 16.
Perkins-Coats was taken into custody Wednesday, August 6, without incident and is currently being held at the Craven County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond.
Authorities say the case remains under investigation.
