Amesha Johnson, the woman first identified by The North Carolina News as the babysitter accused of allegedly burning a one-year-old child in her care, has now been formally charged by the High Point Police Department.
According to a press release from the High Point Police Department, officers responded to an area children’s hospital on March 1 after receiving a report of a possible child abuse case. Upon arrival, they discovered that a toddler had been admitted with severe burns on his hands and feet.
During their investigation, a detective from the Special Victims Unit interviewed multiple individuals and determined that the one-year-old boy had sustained third-degree burns while taking a bath at Amesha Johnson child abuse case a babysitter’s residence in High Point.

As a result, Johnson has been charged with felony child abuse.
Following the investigation, Johnson was arrested Thursday and booked into the Guilford County Jail on a $25,000 bond. However, records confirm that she has since bonded out.
On March 4, the victim’s aunt, known online as @therealchampayned, publicly spoke out about the disturbing incident, alleging that the babysitter placed the toddler in boiling water.
According to the aunt, the one-year-old boy, identified as Sky, had been left in Johnson’s care while his mother, Bri, 21, went out to dinner with friends.
Sky’s mother was reportedly devastated upon receiving the call about her son’s injuries.
Police warrants state that Johnson “placed [Sky] inside the bathtub with hot water running, then left him unattended, where he suffered third-degree burns.”
Johnson’s next court date is scheduled for April 25, 2025.
