High Point Babysitter Sentenced to Probation After Burning Baby Sky in Scalding Bathwater
A careless High Point, North Carolina babysitter who placed a 1-year-old in a bathtub with scalding hot water has dodged jail time and been sentenced to 23 months of probation, according to the victim’s mother.
Back in March 2025, The North Carolina Beat identified 40-year-old Amesha Ytina Johnson as the woman responsible for burning 1-year-old baby Sky.
The case first picked up after the child’s aunt took to TikTok, alleging Johnson placed the toddler in a bathtub filled with scorching hot water.
At the time, Sky’s aunt claimed that Johnson had babysat the child while his mother went out to dinner with friends. According to her, Johnson told them she was giving Sky a bath and walked away for a moment, pinning the blame on the baby, claiming Sky turned the water dial himself — a claim most people online called complete BS.
Sky suffered third-degree burns, and Johnson never called 911, according to the aunt.
Johnson was arrested on March 20, 2025, in connection with burning the infant. Warrants state that she ‘placed him inside the bathtub with hot water running, then left him unattended, where he sustained third-degree burns.’
Now fast forward to this week — on Thursday, September 24, Johnson entered a guilty Alford plea to felony child abuse; recklessly causing serious physical injury and was sentenced to 23 months of probation, according to Sky’s mother, Bri, who posted about the outcome Wednesday on Facebook. At the time of publishing this story, the court’s online records had not been updated to reflect Bri’s post. However, in the transcript of her plea, Johnson told the court her highest level of education was the 11th grade.
When asked if she understood that the Alford guilty plea meant she would be treated as guilty whether or not she admitted to the crime, Johnson answered “yes.”
In another section of the transcript, Johnson again responded “yes” when asked if she believed it was in her best interest to plead guilty to felony child abuse; recklessly causing serious physical injury.
We reached out to Bri for comment, but she had none.
