An 18-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 28-year-old man. Police say the tragic events unfolded late Friday night in the parking lot of the Walmart on Greenville Boulevard.
What Happened?
Around 10 p.m., Greenville police were flagged down by bystanders reporting an unresponsive man in a car. Upon arrival, officers found 28-year-old Jhari Henderson suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency responders, Henderson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Armoni Whitfield from Ayden, North Carolina, was arrested shortly after in her hometown. Authorities believe Whitfield specifically targeted Henderson, though the motive behind the fatal shooting remains unclear.
Ongoing Investigation
The Greenville Police Department has not released additional details about the relationship between Whitfield and Henderson or the potential reasons for the murder. However, they have said that this was not a random act of violence.
Whitfield is currently being held in the Pitt County Detention Center without bond as the investigation continues.
