A Greenville, North Carolina man is behind bars after police say he opened fire inside a barbershop located in a Dothan, Alabama mall.
According to Dothan Police, 25-year-old Sharier AlQuan Caesar turned himself in Wednesday morning around 9:30 a.m. at the Houston County Jail. The incident happened Sunday afternoon inside Not Just Cuts barbershop at Wiregrass Commons Mall, turning what should’ve been a regular day of haircuts into a full-blown shootout.
Investigators said around 4 p.m., a man was getting a haircut when three men—one identified as 20-year-old Korlon Michael Salter—entered the shop. Lieutenant Scott Owens told reporters that the group started making threats before brandishing a firearm.
The customer, who was also armed, pulled out his gun in self-defense. That’s when shots were exchanged.
Witnesses say they heard at least 50 gunshots inside the mall. Salter was hit multiple times and taken to the hospital for treatment, while the armed customer escaped unharmed after hiding in a backroom.
Police allege Caesar also fired rounds during the chaos, further escalating the situation.
Motive May Be Linked to Earlier Killing
According to AL.com, the shooting may be tied to the October 5 killing of 23-year-old Bobby Lee David Miracle Lucas near Troy, Alabama. While police haven’t confirmed the full connection, they said the Dothan incident likely stemmed from “past incidents”.
Police say the case remains under investigation.
