Forsyth County coach Gary Warren Jr. wins $520,690 NC Lottery jackpot
FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina football coach just turned a $5 gamble into a life-changing payday, and the moment he realized he’d struck gold was… loud.
Gary Warren Jr. of Rural Hall walked away with a massive $520,690 jackpot after hitting the top prize in the North Carolina Education Lottery’s digital instant game The Lamp: Dark Arts – with the odds being 1 in 12.9 million — but fate was clearly in his corner.
Warren says the second he saw those winning numbers, he completely lost control.
“I started walking around the house talking in this super high-pitched voice,” he joked.
Warren officially claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Thursday. After the state and federal government took their cut, he walked away with a still-massive $373,597 in cash.
Not bad for five bucks.
