Durham Public Schools employee who distributed food to the public tested positive for COVID-19

A Durham Publis Schools employee who was distributing food and instruction materials at Bethesda Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19.

Other employees who worked at the school have been sent home and directed by DPS to contact the health department. 

The school produces 400 to 500 meals for various feeding sites and serves about 100 meals directly each day.

DPS officials are looking into adjusting the feeding program/

Our highest priority is to keep our students, families, and staff safe during this COVID-19 response, Superintendent Pascal Mubenga said. We continue to be grateful to all of our staff who have been supporting our students by providing school meals and instructional materials, we we will continue to strengthen our programs to ensure that they operate safely for all.

DPS was notified about the employee testing positive Wednesday night.
