A heartbreaking accident claimed the lives of a North Carolina mother and her 12-year-old daughter on Christmas Day when a deer struck by another car was hit again, sending the animal through their windshield.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed the crash occurred around 10 p.m. on Gold Hill Road in Cabarrus County.
Details of the Accident
Authorities report that the deer was initially struck by one vehicle. Moments later, a second car, driven by 31-year-old Melissa Mullis, hit the deer again. The impact caused the animal to crash through the windshield, killing Mullis and her daughter, Carson Cummings.
Both victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The driver of the first vehicle will not face charges, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
