A North Carolina foster mother, K’netha Faggart, glued her eyes shut after confusing a bottle of nail glue for eyedrops. The incident, which has garnered attention on TikTok, was shared by her foster daughter, Ria Faggart, who posted a video of K’netha in the hospital with her eyes sealed shut.
According to a description on a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised $1,517 out of its $3,500 goal, doctors estimate it will take 5-7 weeks for the woman’s eyes to open. Once they do, further examinations will be needed to assess the extent of the damage and she could have some vision loss.
In an interview with Queen City News in Charlotte, K’netha explained that she took out her contacts and grabbed what she thought was a bottle of eye drops from her desk. It turned out to be nail glue that she had left out for Ria.
“IT BURNED THE HOLY CRAP OUT OF ME AND I IMMEDIATELY GOT UP AND WAS RUNNING TO THE BATHROOM AND TRYING TO WIPE IT AND WHEN I GOT IN THE BATHROOM TO TURN THE WATER ON WHEN I WENT TO TRY TO PUT THE WATER IN MY EYE, MY FINGER WAS STUCK TO MY EYE THAT MOMENT AND THAT’S WHEN I REALIZED IT WAS THE GLUE,” SHE TOLD THE OUTLET.
According to K’netha, an ophthalmologist cut her eye open and retrieved a large glob of glue. She said he could “see the whole eyeball was scratched up everywhere.” She added, “I still have glue in the corner of the eye and up under the bottom.”
