A Caswell County shooting has left a North Carolina family searching for answers after 21-year-old Maurice Thomas Jr. was found shot dead outside his home in Blanche, and no arrests have been made.
CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina family is grieving — and demanding justice — after a 21-year-old man was found shot to death right outside his own home.
According to the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call around 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, on Ed Rowland Road. When they arrived, they found Maurice Willie Thomas Jr., 21, lying outside near his car, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“HE WAS JUST AT HOME PLAYING THE GAME”
Now, his family says nothing about this situation makes sense.
Maurice’s brother, Devin Pointer, told The North Carolina Beat that the family is still trying to piece together what happened.
“He was at home playing the game. It was said that he was on the way to pick up someone or ride with someone somewhere, but his phone is in police possession,” Pointer said.
Pointer said the shooting happened Saturday night, March 21, 2026, but authorities did not find Maurice until Sunday evening, March 22, 2026.
“WE WANT JUSTICE — THE PEACEFUL WAY”
Despite their pain, the family says they are not looking for retaliation — they want justice. In an emotional statement, Pointer described his brother as someone who didn’t deserve this type of ending.
“We want to really avenge his death. Maurice was the sweetest and most angelic person ever. Justice has to be served in the most peaceful way — that’s how he would have wanted it,” Pointer said.
“As his older brother, I’m making it my duty to bring awareness to this and hope the answers come faster than they have been.”
Investigators say the case does not appear to be drug-related or gang-related.
Maurice was also an employee as a contractor with the City of Burlington’s solid waste department.
NO ARRESTS — AND A FAMILY STILL WAITING
Three weeks later, there have been no arrests, no suspects publicly identified, and few answers.
Meanwhile, Maurice’s family is left with grief — and growing frustration.
They say someone out there knows exactly what happened.
And now, they’re speaking out, hoping awareness will bring justice to their loved one.
ANYONE WITH INFORMATION URGED TO COME FORWARD
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and are asking anyone with information to contact the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office.
