Wednesday, District Attorney Scott Thomas announced that a special prosecutor has been assigned to investigate sexual assault complaints against former Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office employee, Jeremy Lee.
In a press release, Thomas said after consulting with Pamlico County Sheriff Chris Davis, it was determined that a special prosecutor from North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys would review any formal complaints filed with the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office regarding former Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Lee.
The Special Prosecutor will have the independent authority to investigate any filed complaints and take any legal action deemed appropriate, based upon the facts and applicable law. If any additional investigative assistance is needed, it will be conducted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Thomas said that Lee was terminated Monday, June 29, 2020.
The request from District Attorney Thomas was made in the interests of justice to
avoid any local potential conflicts in Pamlico County.
On Monday, June 29, 2020, The North Carolina’s Beat Lead Journalist Gerald Jackson did a live interview with Sam Edmonds, a 19-year-old who said she was sexually assaulted by Lee when she was 17-years-old.
