Shayalia Bradford, a single mother from Alabama, mistakenly sent $800 via Apple Pay to the wrong recipient while trying to pay her children’s tuition.

Bradford took to Facebook on Friday, Jan. 10, to ask for help. She asked if anyone knew Carmen Farris or her husband, Joseph Farris, explaining how she mistakenly sent the funds and her attempts to recover them. Bradford wrote that the payment was meant for a woman named “Tasha” but was mistakenly sent to Carmen – who has the old number of Tasha.

Carmen Melissa Farris and her husband, Joseph Farris, are at the center of controversy after Carmen refused to return $800 accidentally sent to her via Apple Pay. The couple has faced backlash for their handling of the situation, with Joseph defending their actions during a heated Facetime call.

The Transfer

According to screenshots shared by Bradford, the $800 was sent at 6:25 a.m. on Jan. 10 for “Khloe and Kassidy Wright,” presumably her children. Shortly after, Bradford received a message from the contact saved as “Tasha,” who told Bradford to call her attached with a screenshot showing the money had been transferred to a Wells Fargo account at 7:08 a.m.

Bradford immediately realized her error and sent a request to reverse the payment, pleading with Carmen to return the funds. Her messages included emotional appeals, stating, “I’m a single mother trying. Please just hit pay so I can get my funds back.” Despite her repeated requests, Carmen read the messages but did not respond. Instead, she blocked Bradford on iMessage, leaving the mother with no means to reclaim the money.

Social Media Fallout

During a Facetime call, Joseph reportedly berated Bradford, claiming she didn’t give them enough time to respond. When Bradford insisted the money be returned, Joseph replied, “It’s too late.” Carmen then attempted to justify her actions instead of returning the woman’s money.

Adding insult to injury, Carmen allegedly posted on social media saying, “$800 payday. Guess who just got PAID,” a post that has since been deleted.

Carmen Melissa Farris reportedly made a now-deleted Facebook post saying, “$800 payday. Guess who just got PAID,” after receiving $800 sent to her by mistake via Apple Pay. The post has fueled public outrage and intensified scrutiny of her refusal to return the funds.
Initially, Bradford created a GoFundMe campaign after people expressed a desire to donate and help her recover the lost funds. However, when the donations exceeded $800, some began questioning her motives. Despite this, some felt she could have disabled the account once it reached the initial $800 target. Facing scrutiny, Bradford ultimately decided to deactivate the GoFundMe account.

If you would like to donate to this mother of three, you can send your contribution via Apple Pay to Shayalia at [email protected].

  1. May the lord take away ten times more that she received from Shay. This sad the way her and her husband talked to Shay. The husband has the nerve to speak to her in that manner. No good things are coming there way in a long time.

  2. Is she able to report is stolen or file a police report on her. She’s aware that the money isn’t hers. Shame on her she is such a lame. Karma is going to pay her back big time. Make sure you post so everyone knows what type of person she is smh it’s so simple to just send that girl her money back. That’s not your money. 😡

  3. In the year of our Lord 2025 if you don’t have the correct contact info for your own chillrenz then the congregation cannot believe this all isn’t one big stunt between three people who know exactly what they are doing. And $800 tuition for two kids to one account? C’mon now. This is all a farce and y’all took the bait.

  4. That lady is wrong and she knows she is wrong. She needs to do the right thing and send that lady her money back cause she wouldn’t want no one to do her that way. May God bless the lady that lost the $800 and does she recover it? I will take her to court her and her husband
